Assoc. Prof. Yakup Alpay's Academic Background

He was born in Adana on September 1, 1988. He completed his primary and secondary education at Adana Nuri and Zekiye Has Primary School. In 2003, he achieved a high ranking in the High School Entrance Examination and was admitted to Mersin Science High School; however, he completed his high school education at Adana Private Science High School.

He ranked 114th nationwide in the university entrance examination. In 2006, he was admitted to his first-choice program, the English Faculty of Medicine at Hacettepe University. After graduating from Hacettepe University in 2013, he completed his compulsory public service at Cizre State Hospital.

After achieving a high score in the Medical Specialization Examination, he chose Orthopaedics and Traumatology in 2014 and began his residency at Metin Sabancı Baltalimanı Bone Diseases Hospital. In 2019, he completed his training and left Baltalimanı Bone Diseases Hospital as a Specialist in Orthopaedics and Traumatology.

During his six years at Baltalimanı, he attended hundreds of scientific meetings, participated in international academic activities, and contributed to scientific publications. His early interest in hip replacement surgery enabled him to gain experience in thousands of cases at a relatively young age. By benefiting from the perspectives of mentors trained in different clinical settings and from Baltalimanı’s 60 years of institutional experience, he rapidly advanced his professional expertise.

Between 2019 and 2021, he worked as an Orthopaedic Specialist at Sultanbeyli State Hospital. During this two-year period, the hospital developed into an important orthopaedic referral centre and began accepting cases from nearby training and research hospitals and universities. In 2021, he resigned from his position in the public hospital system.

In 2021, he joined Medical Park Maltepe Hospital. During the same period, he began teaching as a lecturer at Bahçeşehir University. He contributed to the education of hundreds of physicians, including international students from various countries. Many of the students he trained now practise medicine in different parts of the world. They also continue to contribute to scientific research by applying the academic principles they acquired during their training.

Yakup Alpay, who has always placed great importance on scientific meetings, was awarded the title of Associate Professor on April 29, 2024. He continues his academic work toward professorship, while remaining actively involved in scientific meetings, academic publications, and session chairmanships.

He has authored 33 articles published in national and international scientific journals. These studies continue to receive citations and serve as scientific references. His contributions, particularly in the fields of hip replacement and revision surgery, continue to retain academic value.

Through his work in contemporary medical practice and regenerative orthopaedics, he aims to treat patients with non-surgical methods whenever possible. Although he has developed particular expertise in hip replacement surgery, one of the main reasons patients choose him is his approach of first evaluating non-operative treatment options and seeking appropriate solutions before considering surgery.

Another important area of expertise is revision joint replacement surgery. He has extensive experience in both revision hip and revision knee replacement procedures. He is particularly experienced in two-stage revision surgery and infection management in patients who developed infections following procedures performed at other centres.

He has treated a large number of revision hip replacement cases involving acetabular bone defects using biological fixation without reinforcement rings. His experience includes thousands of complex cases, such as hip replacement in patients with deformities, younger patients, paediatric patients, and other technically demanding conditions.

Patients who have previously undergone surgery, including those with two or three unsuccessful procedures, increasingly seek treatment from Yakup Alpay from other cities and abroad. The experience gained from managing complex joint replacement cases and infection follow-up has contributed to the successful treatment of thousands of patients.
